The Catechetical Institute
The Catechetical Institute of the Diocese of Raleigh provides formation and certification for Catholic lay adults serving the Church in the ministry of catechesis. It is accomplished by professional and pastoral formation opportunities through both on-site and distance learning.
The Catechetical Institute offers a path and framework for training catechetical leaders and catechists so that they may deepen their communion with Jesus Christ and his Church, increase their understanding of the faith and their skills to communicate it in their communities. It assists the laity in their role as disciples to become more effective signs of Christ's presence among all God's people.
The formation and certification offered by the Catechetical Institute is accomplished through and with the cooperation and collaboration of various diocesan offices, the diocesan community and the wider Church.

Small Groups and Movements
What are a Small Christian Communities and Movements?
Small Christian Communities and Movements are recognized ecclesial groups of people who invest time with one another for the common purpose of responding to God's presence in their lives and in the world. They share their human stories and their faith with one another. They read scripture, engage in formation, pray, sing and serve others in charity and support.
"One way of renewing parishes, especially urgent for parishes in large cities, might be to consider the parish as a community of communities and movements.
"It seems timely therefore to form ecclesial communities and groups of a size that allows for true human relationships. This will make it possible to live communion more intensely, ensuring that it is fostered not only ad intra, but also with the parish communities to which such groups belong and with the entire diocesan and universal church.
"In such a human context it will be easier to gather to hear the word of God, to reflect on the range of human problems in the light of this word and gradually to make responsible decisions inspired by the all-embracing love of Christ."
Pope John Paul II "Ecclesia in America," 1999
